Chinese Zodiac

We went to a Chinese restaurant. It was in Clawson called Lim Palace. The placemats are the Chinese animal signs that give a description of which animal you would be according to your year you were born.  Mine says that I am the monkey and this is what it says:
You are very intelligent and are able to influence people. And enthusiastic achiever, you are easily discouraged and confused. Avoid Tigers. Seek a dragon or a rat. It is funny because it says to avoid tigers and that is my dad and I do not want to avoid him.  It does say to seek a rat and that would be my mom.

Mia and Ania did a fundraiser this weekend at Brooklyn Pizza in Troy. It is for the Beaumont Hospital Children's hospital room design my room program. I went on Saturday to support their cause. I hope a lot of other BCS kids went too. There was an article in the Birmingham Bloomfield paper this week about it. Here is the article. Good job Aniaand Nia

BPS students raise money for hospital room makeover

TROY — Any excuse to include pizza into your weekend plans is probably a good one. But two sixth-grade students at Birmingham Covington School have really outdone themselves with this one.

This Friday and Saturday, Brooklyn Pizza’s Troy location will donate 15 percent of its proceeds to Bloomfield Hills-based nonprofit Wish Upon a Teen. The group works to create social and educational opportunities for teens facing serious illnesses or disabilities. The group offers teens undergoing treatment spa days and prom events, as well as music, media and technology training courses, and even support for siblings.

Their aim with this fundraiser is to use the funds to make over children’s hospital rooms at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak as part of their Design My Room program.

The fundraiser is an effort by BCS sixth-graders Ania and Mia, who asked for the community’s support in a video that can be seen on the Birmingham Public Schools community news page. They explained why they wanted to help young people touched by cancer, including one right in the BPS district.

“We are honored that students at Birmingham Public Schools have taken an interest in our Design My Room program and have decided to create a fundraiser to benefit it,” Michelle Soto, president and founder of Wish Upon a Teen, said in a prepared statement. “Long-term hospitalization often has a negative impact on a teenager’s self-esteem and on their families. Hospital rooms are typically very plain, and teenagers and families want the comforts of home. The funds raised will help us decorate hospital rooms to feel more like home.”

With the help of some new bedding, rugs, posters, and movie and sports memorabilia, all tailored to the teen’s interest, organizers hope that extended hospital stays can be made a little less stressful.

“We are extremely grateful to the students of Birmingham Covington School, Wish Upon A Teen and Brooklyn Pizza patrons for their generous support of Beaumont Children’s Hospital,” Brian Berman, M.D., pediatrician-in-chief of Beaumont Children’s Hospital, said in an email. “These donations provide comfort and compassionate care to the many children and families that we serve.”

To ensure the 15 percent donation, be sure to let Brooklyn Pizza staff know you’re a part of the fundraiser. For more information, visit www.wishuponateen.org.

Brooklyn Pizza is located at 3141 Crooks Road in Troy.

Mrs. Fitz

I feel really feel sad about Mrs. Fitz. I didn't really know her since it is my first year in Covington. I feel sad though because of what happened to her. I heard she was very nice.  I feel sorry for her friends and her family. I hope her kids will be okay. We had a moment of silence today at school.  We discussed what happened to her I feel very bad.  I hope she rests in peace.

Snow day

We went sledding today at Lincoln Hills golf course.it was a lot of fun. There was a lot of kids there today. It was cool being there in the winter time. We play golf there in the summer. Even though it's cold it is still really fun. You really don't think about the cold when you're having so much fun.  My brother and I sledged together on two different kinds of sleds. Mine was faster!  There is a clubhouse there so after we went sledding we went into the clubhouse and had hot chocolate with marshmallows.

Snow day

We finally have a snow day! I have waited a long time. I am happy. I can't wait to go out in the snow. I hope we can go sledding.  My uncle Rick got stuck in a ditch last night. He was leaving our house after watching the Super Bowl.  My dad and some of my dads friends all had to push him out.  Then they had to shovel a path in our driveway for him to get out.  He did eventually get out and made it home safely.  Our back yard looks like a big snow mass. Our pool cover is caved in.

Red Wings Bday

I went to my cousins birthday party yesterday. He had a Red Wings team. We went ice-skating. He had a Red Wings cake and a Red Wings tablecloth it looked like the ice arena.  We ate pizza and played at his house and then had cake.  Then we all went to the ice arena and ice skated.  He got a PS for Christmas so we bought him a PS  gift card that you can download a game.  He liked that a lot.
